SoccerBible Debate - Football in 3D? - 28/01/10
Sunday's Premier League football match between Arsenal and Manchester United will be the world's first live 3D game, and we'd love to hear your opinion on the event?!
Football fans at nine pubs in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Dublin will be wearing their 3D specs as they become the first audiences anywhere in the world to watch live 3D sport! The top-of-the-table clash at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium will be the public's first taste of live 3D football, ahead of Sky's dedicated 3D channel launching in April.
With specially engineered 3D camera rigs housing Sky's high definition cameras, Sky promises to broadcast a weekly 3D Premier League game to hundreds more pubs this spring. And in the home, its 1.6 million Sky+HD customers will be able to watch the 3D channel at no extra charge.
Gerry O'Sullivan, Sky's Director of Strategic Product Development, said: "2010 is the year for 3D TV. People have already embraced 3D cinema and because Sky's 3D service uses the same kind of technology, we're confident there will be demand for sport, movies, concerts and drama in 3D."
Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, added: "Sky Sports has a proud history of innovation, from the simple clock and scoreline in the corner of the screen through to high definition. It's fitting that we're pioneering this new, revolutionary development in broadcasting."
WE WANT TO HEAR WHAT YOU THINK OF LIVE 3D FOOTBALL...IS IT AN EXPERIENCE THAT WILL ENHANCE YOUR ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME, OR IS IT A DISTRACTION FROM THE GAME THAT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE PUB ARENA?
