Football Boots - European Round Up - 09/02/10

Every week the SoccerBible rounds-up the best European domestic action, football boots on show and the star performers.

Despite being reduced to nine men Barcelona were victorious, as were league rivals Real Madrid. Inter Milan continue to boss Serie A and capitalised on dropped points by AC Milan, elsewhere, Bordeaux suffered a shock defeat and Bayern Munich moved onto level points with German leaders Leverkusen.

Leaders Barcelona remain five points clear in La Liga despite finishing against Getafe with only nine men, Barca had Pique and Marquez sent off yet they still triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals from Messi and Xavi.

Real Madrid made light work of Espanyol to keep up the pressure on Barca, as they ran out 3-0 winners at the Santiago Bernabeu. Elsewhere, Valencia returned to winning ways as they overcame Valladolid 2-0, Real Zaragoza stunned high-flying Sevilla and Osasuna's excellent form continued with victory over Tenerife.

Bayern Munich have reeled in league leaders Bayer Leverkusen over the past few weeks, and are now level on points with the table-toppers. Bayern capitalised on Leverkusen's 1-1 draw with Vfl Bochum by beating Wolfsburg 3-1, courtesy of goals from Robben, van Buyten and a fit-again Ribery.

Werder Bremen ended a run of five straight defeats with a 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg played out a six-goal thriller to share a point, while Borussia Dortmund were beaten 3-2 by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Inter Milan strengthened their position at the top of Serie A, brushing aside Cagliari 3-0, with goals from Pandev, Samuel and Milito. And as Milan were unable to defeat Bologna, Roma now sit in second after Mirko Vucinic struck late to down Fiorentina.

Juventus' poor form continues after they drew 1-1 at struggling Livorno, which means Juventus have now gone five games without a win. Elsewhere, Udinese ended Napoli's excellent form with a 3-1 victory.

Rennes shocked Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux with an emphatic 4-2 victory, and they even had a three goal advantage at one stage. This result allowed Montpellier to close within three points of the pace-setters after their 2-0 success against Boulogne.

Marseille kept within  touching distance by thumping Valenciennes 5-1, and Grenoble also hit five goals as they beat Auxerre. Fourth-placed Lyon were held to a goalless draw at Toulouse while Lille were also denied against Nice.
