Barcelona lost their first game of the season, allowing Real Madrid to close the gap. Italian league leaders Inter Milan also dropped points, whilst Bordeaux returned to winning ways and it remains close at the top of the Bundesliga...






Barcelona suffered their first loss of the season as they were stunned by Atletico Madrid, with goals from Diego Forlan and Simao. Which means Real Madrid have reduced the deficit to two points after they saw off Xerez 3-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing a brace.

Sevilla climbed to fourth in the Primera Division after Luis Fabiano's strike downed Osasuna, while third-placed Valencia had to rely on a later equaliser to ensure they salvaged a point from their meeting with out-of-form Sporting Gijon.

The two leading teams in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich remain level on points in Germany after both were victorious this weekend. Bayer defeated Wolfsburg 2-1, while Bayern overcame Borussia Dortmund with a 3-1 victory, thanks to crucial goals from Robben and Gomez.

Third-placed Schalke are lurking just three points behind the leading duo, courtesy of a 2-0 triumph against Cologne. Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped off the bench to help fourth-placed Hamburg beat Stuttgart 3-1, and Werder Bremen hammered Hannover 5-1.

Inter Milan were unable to find a way past a high-flying Napoli side, to draw their second consecutive game and drop another two points. That result allowed Roma to move within seven points of the leaders after they cruised to 4-1 win over Palermo.

AC Milan worked hard for a 3-2 success against Udinese, thanks to a brace from Huntelaar, while Sampdoria overcame Fiorentina 2-0. Del Piero celebrated his record 445th appearance for Juventus with two goals to secure a much-needed triumph over Genoa, to keep hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

Ligue 1 leaders and reigning champions Bordeaux bounced back from their recent loss, to triumph over St Etienne 3-1 thanks to goals from Chamakh and Wendel. But Montpellier are keeping up the pressure, after notching a fifth straight win against Grenoble.

Lille are third in the table after defeating Boulogne 3-1, Marseille made it back-to-back successes with a 2-1 win at Monaco. Whilst Lyon kept up their decent form with a 1-0 victory over Lens, thanks to substitute Cesar Delgado.
