Barcelona suffered their first loss of the season as they were stunned by Atletico Madrid, with goals from Diego Forlan and Simao. Which means Real Madrid have reduced the deficit to two points after they saw off Xerez 3-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing a brace.

The two leading teams in the Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich remain level on points in Germany after both were victorious this weekend. Inter Milan were unable to find a way past a high-flying Napoli side, to draw their second consecutive game and drop another two points. That result allowed Roma to move within seven points of the leaders after they cruised to 4-1 win over Palermo.
