Winning Dempsey Strike Debuts Nike Mercurial Superfly II
When Nike unveiled the new Mercurial Superfly II, they did so with the tag line "Write the Future". Barely three weeks later, Fulham and USMNT star Clint Dempsey has done just that - both with the winning strike for the Cottagers and the debut of the Nike Mercurial Superfly II football boots.
'Deuce' was introduced from the bench as Fulham fought back from a 3-1 first leg defeat to level the tie at 4-4 on aggregate. We were anticipating the upcoming weekend's action to be our first official sighting of the new football boots, rather than the UEFA Europa League, but with their distinctive ultra-violet and orange colour combination the Superfly II's stand out from even the back of the Craven Cottage stands.
With the tie levelled at 4-4 on aggregate, Dempsey collected the ball on the edge of the area and produced a stunning chip that floated over Juventus 'keeper Chimenti into the far top-corner of the net. Cue delirium from the striker and the home crowd, meaning the Cottagers dumped out the Old Lady and continue to live their dream and advance to the quarter finals of the Europa League.
We're sure Dempsey will have plenty of more opportunity to 'Write the Future' this season, and into the World Cup. But we're keeping our eyes firmly peeled as to who will be on the next big name footballer sporting the new Superfly II boots...
