Big Weekend Football Boots Spotting 05/04/10

Big Weekend Football Boots Spotting 05/04/10

A busy weekend of domestic football around the world, with the SoccerBible Boot Spotters out in force. This weekend saw a host of players changing up to the new Superfly II, as well as some excellent kit and football boots colour co-ordination. Check out who wore what...

Diniya Bilyaletdinov (Everton)
  Puma King XL

Craig Bellamy (Manchester City)
  Nike Mercurial Superfly II

The Russian, wearing the White/Gold colourway of the Puma King XL football boots, opened the scoring in the crunch game at Goodison with a deft glancing header. The King series has been around for over 40 years, with the current XL version being the most technically advanced edition to date.

Manchester City ran riot at Burnley in the late Saturday kick off, with the game over as a contest after an incredible 7 minutes. Bellamy scored his 9th league goal of the season and switched to the Superfly II boots - complete with CB39 personalisation.

Anton Ferdinand (Sunderland)
        NikeID CTR360 Maestri

Federico Macheda (Man Utd)
        Nike Mercurial Superfly II

We love a boot spot where kit and boots co-ordinate with ease - so kudos to Anton Ferdinand wore these NikeID'd CTR360 boots with a colour combo that perfectly matches the Sunderland kit. But for a contentious foul on Spurs  'keeper Gomes, he would have been on the score sheet in these boots too.

Last season Macheda scored a famous goal at the same end of Old Trafford, then wearing Nike T90 Laser II boots. This weekend the young Italian came off the bench to pull a goal back         and did so sporting the Nike Mercurial Superfly II football boots in         the SG sole plate.

Phil Jagielka (Everton)
  Umbro Stealth Pro

Araujo Ilan (West Ham)
  Mizuno Ghost Striker

Jagielka is one of the top recruits to the new Umbro Stealth football boots, having been a consistent Speciali wearer. Opting for the White/Red colourway, the Stealth is designed to offer speed, strength and control wrapped up in one lighter weight package.

The Hammers were facing another defeat until Julien Faubert's excellent cross was met spectacularly by the head of Ilan. Wearing the Mizuno Ghost Striker soccer shoes, Ilan threw himself at the ball to power home an equaliser and end West Ham's poor recent run without any points.

Landon Donovan (La Galaxy)
  Nike CTR360

Emmanuel Adebayor (Man City)
  adidas F50i

Now back full time with LA Galaxy, Donovan sported these customised Nike CTR360 football boots for the second match in a row. Featuring the recently released Team Red/Gold colourway, Donovan's football boots have the addition of the Superfly traction sole plate - we want! More on Donovan's new boots here.

The imposing City   Togo striker showed his class as a finisher with a brace against a poor Burnley side. Fittingly wearing the bright red Champions League edition of the adidas F50i football boots, Adebyaor's goals helped City move into that all important 4th Champions League spot.

Wilson Palacios (Spurs)
  Umbro Stealth Pro

Mike Chabala (Houston Dynamos)
  adidas F50i Messi

Spurs' midfield enforcer likes to change his footwear regularly it seems, and the latest change is to the new Umbro Stealth boots. Choosing the White/Red colourway, the Stealth is the next on the list of boots which the Honduran has worn this season.

Be honest - we often wear boots because we want to emulate our heroes. So do we assume Dynamos full back Chabala is a Lionel Messi fan? Or it is probably more likely that the Messi signature leather version of the adidas F50i gives him superb comfort and touch...

Bojan Krkic (Barcelona)
        Nike Mercurial Superfly 1.5

Mike Petke (NY Red Bulls)
        Puma v1.10K

The young Spanish international bagged a brace against Athletic Bilbao wearing the Nike Mercurial Superfly II football boots. But what caught our boot spotters' eyes were his Superfly II's appear to feature the sole plate from the original Superfly...

The vetran Red Bulls defender leads the club's all time appearance and minutes played charts, and took to the field against Seattle wearing the leather edition of the Puma v1.10. Another great example of matching the kit and boots, just like Seattle's Fredy Montero (right)

Blair Gavin (Chivas USA)
adidas adiPure II

Nicklas Bendtner Arsenal)
Nike Mercurial Superfly II

Galaxy's match up with Chivas USA allowed superdraft pick Gavin to bring out these rarely seen adidas adiPure II boots. The White/Green colourway never made it to European shores but, like nearly every adiPure boot released, is still a stylish and classy combo.

Bendtner's late late late goal kept Arsenal in the title hunt, and was the first instance of the Dane wearing the Superfly II's - although unlike team mate Walcott he must have left his (RED) laces on another pair. However they did feature his customary personalisation - "Bendtner 52" on the outside, Danish national flag on the instep.

Boot Spotting Shorts... While we wait for Didier Drogba to make the switch, Paolo Ferreira shows us what the new Nike Mercurial range will look like with the Chelsea kit wearing the Vapor VI against Man Utd...Yossi Benayounwas back in originalNike Superfly Max Orange boots against Birmingham... Gary Neville is another player spied wearing a hybrid adidas Predator X, again with the PowerSwerve sole plate... David Bentley joins team mate Wilson Palacios in switching to the Umbro Stealth - the Spurs winger has also played in adidas adiPure II's and adidas Predator X boots this season...

A few shout outs this week going to SoccerBible community members Bacsi, el_nino_9, Seb Marley, Bradley Clarke and Nolan "The Roller" Dwyer for some excellent boot spotting this weekend. If you've seen anything that belongs on this page, mail us at u2us@soccerbible.com  putting 'Boot Spotting' in the subject field...
