Didier Drogba switches to Nike Mercurial Superfly II

Didier Drogba switches to Nike Mercurial Superfly II

It's taken a few weeks longer than most other players, but last night it looked as though Chelsea striker Didier Drogba had finally made the switch over to the new Superfly II football boots.

However, on closer inspection it seems Drogba is one of a few high-profile players wearing what we are calling out as the Superfly 1.5. Drogba's boots featured blacked-out studs along with his Nike (RED) laces - one cause Didier is still showing strong support for. Also of note is a tongue very reminiscent of that from the classic Vapor III - making Drogba's football boots quite unique!

Didier Drogba was one of the top players who was called upon when designing and crafting the Superfly II, which must be all the more frustrating for Nike when their global icons play in modified versions of the boots. For those of you unconvinced on the colour way, speak to the Superfly II designer Andy Caine, who told us this unique colour combo was partly the Ivory Coast striker's choice!

The Ivory Coast striker has been enjoying the previous incarnation of  the Nike  Mercurial Superfly Black/Volt since, well, since they were released  way back in August of last year. Although the Superfly  II football boots have been in the public domain since late  February, it has been a slow uptake from the professional elite with  even the Mercurial series poster boy Cristiano  Ronaldo causing a stir over his delay in playing in the new  football boots from Nike.
