adidas F50 adiZero On Pitch Debut: Forlan & Kalou
Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan not only debuted the brand new adidas F50 adiZero football boots, but bagged himself a brace in the new cleats to clinch the Europa League title for his side!
After adidas laid on the red carpet treatment in Barcelona for Lionel Messi and David Villa at the official F50 boot launch, it will be the Nordbank Arena in Hamburg that will go down in our boot-spotting record books as the competitive debut for the new F50 adizero boots.
Forlan appears to have been set on a revenge mission to make Premier League clubs life a misery after leaving Manchester United. With Liverpool his victims in the semi-final, now Fulham have fallen to the Atletico striker's finishing talents.
The Uruguay forward sported the Black/Sun colourway in leather and the soft ground mixed sole plate, complete with Uruguay flag boot personalisation on the instep. Atletico drew first blood, as a Sergio Aguero mis-hit shot fell perfectly for Forlan, who slotted coolly to put his side 1-0 up.
Fulham had equalised not long after through Simon Davies, which is how the score stayed through to the end of 90 minutes. 30 minutes of extra time beckoned, and with the game all but destined for the dreaded penalties it was the lethal combination of Aguero and Forlan once more that combined (with a chunk of help from a Fulham deflection) to give the Spanish side the defining lead.
We already knew we wouldn't be treated to quite the spectacle last season brought, where Messi debuted the adidas F50i boots in dramatic style to clinch the Champions League title (complete with an adidas-pleasing boot kiss after scoring). But, as far as football boots debuts go, Forlan and the F50 adizero is right up there!
**UPDATE 15/05** Chelsea's Salamon Kalou debuts the Sun/Black/Gold synthetics during the 129th FA Cup Final at Wembley. The Blues also sported the new Chelsea Home Kit by adidas for the first time...
