Behind-the-scenes at the adiZero Launch!
With boot launch events becoming increasingly spectacular, we couldn't wait to see what adidas had planned for the highly anticipated F50 adiZero football boots. SoccerBible received an exclusive invite to the launch event in Barcelona, and bearing in mind the adiZero's are the lightest football boots ever created, the adidas launch event certainly didn't disappoint!
The location for the adiZero launch was the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, which gave us an insight into what to expect for the unveiling of the lightest ever football boot. To unveil the revolutionary new boot, adidas called upon adidas football superstars Leo Messi and David Villa.
Seated in a grandstand on the starting grid of the Circuit de Catalunya, the roar of cars filled the pit lane before two incredible F1 cars screeched past adorned in awesome F50 colours. The F1 cars are incredible examples of lightweight speed engineering, and the two protagonists who emerge to join the cars are the ultimate examples of players who utilise lightweight, speed football boots.
The revolutionary new adidas F50 adiZero football boot weighs-in at an astonishing 165 grams, a technological advancement that has amazed even Leo Messi. Addressing the crowd Lionel Messi was "amazed at how light the new F50 is; I can barely feel them on my feet. Speed on the pitch is a really important part of my game and wearing the world s lightest boot will hopefully make me faster and enhance my performance during the most important games of the year!
A sentiment echoed by Spanish striker David Villa, who revealed he will be wearing the black and sun versions at the World Cup, by addin Speed is such an important part of my game and I am so excited about being even faster when I m playing in South Africa against the best in the world in just a few weeks time.
The need for speed in modern football has never been greater, where millimetres or a fraction of a second can make the difference between winning and losing. We learned from the creators of the adiZero that adidas has responded to requests of adidas athletes such as Messi and Villa, to completely reinvent the rules of speed and turn the iconic F50 boot into the lightest adidas boot ever made.
On an impressive podium, which showcased the new adiZero viral video, Aubrey Dolan (Senior Product Manager for adidas Football) informed the assembled media: Players like Lionel Messi and David Villa consistently told us they wanted boots that would enable them to be faster. Players wanted to be first to the ball, so we decided that the best way forward was to make a lightweight product which could be used at the highest level.
The adidas F50 adiZero is truly an astonishing football boot, it incorporates pioneering boot technology, materials and engineering to weigh a mere 165 grams. We were not only blown away by the launch event and the global icons in attendance, but by what has to be the dawning of a new era in lightweight football boots. And if you don't believe us, pick an adiZero up for yourself and we assure you that you will be amazed!
