SoccerBible World Cup Update - 17/06/10
Argentina stormed to a 4-1 victory over South Korea in the opening fixture of day 7 at the World Cup, to all but guarantee their place in the knockout phase.
Both Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain were in sensational form wearing adidas adiZero football boots, but it was Higuain who scooped man of the match after a fantastic hat-trick!
There's been plenty to discuss at the World Cup, along with some interesting boot spottings, some great team play and plenty to look forward to. Check out the SoccerBible's view on the latest goings on in South Africa...
Xavi (Spain) |
Carlos Pavon (Honduras) |
Spanish midfielder wore an interesting hybrid adidas Predator boot, the sole-plate was undoubtedly a PowerSwerve but the upper was the Predator X World Cup, although it appears Xavi has had the rubber Predator element removed. |
It took some investigating and magnifying of images, but we deciphered Carlos Pavon was playing in some blacked-out and customised Nike Vapor V football boots, which he has partially removed the lace-cover from. |
Diego Forlan played slightly deeper for Uruguay against South Africa, another testiment to his ability as he dictated Uruguay's play. Forlan scored the first goal with a great opportunist strike from outside the area, which took a slight deflection. But he was clinical from the penalty spot for his second goal, and his cross field pass to set up Uruguay's third goal was sensational!
Argentina v South Korea (Group B)
With three points already on the board, both teams know that victory could secure a place in the next round of the World Cup, so the must watch game of the day has to be Argentina versus South Korea. South Korea looked impressive in their opening game against Greece, whilst the Argentinians didn't look convincing against Nigeria, but their attacking line-up has the ability to impress.
The player to watch for Argentina can only be the best player in the world - Lionel Messi. Messi is playing at such a level that he commands his own colourway of the lightweight adidas F50 adiZero football boots. However, Messi is under pressure from an entire nation and a footballing legend as a coach, who are all expecting him to do something magical.
South Korean captain Park Ji Sung is the inspiration for his team, at Manchester United he's known for his energy and work-rate, and he carries this ethic into his national side. Park plays in Tiempo Legend football boots, which are an all round performance boot, and has been happy to switch into Nike Elite Tiempo Legend football boots.
