SoccerBible World Cup Update - 22/06/10
Day 12 brings us four matches to feast on with Groups A and B to be decided. Which teams will progress to the knockout stage...
There are crunch games for both France and South Africa in Group A today, whilst in Group B Argentina are pretty much guaranteed progression, leaving the second spot to South Korea and Nigeria to fight over!
There's been plenty to discuss at the World Cup, along with some interesting boot spotting, some great team play and plenty to look forward to. Check out the SoccerBible's view on the latest goings on in South Africa...
David Villa (Spain) |
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) |
Our boot spots usually highlight the interesting and unique boot choices of players, but its good to remind ourselves of how the top-end boots and players are performing. Such as David Villa, who seems to be enjoying his new adiZero's, after scoring two goals for Spain. |
Another player enjoying top-end performance is Cristiano Ronaldo, who finally got on the scoresheet at the World Cup. The world's most expensive player was in inspirational form for Portugal, wearing his mixed sole Elite Superfly's. |
Receving the ball mid-way inside the Honduras half and out wide on the touchline, David Villa showed great pace, direct running and quick feet, before bending the ball beyond the goalkeeper with a great finish!
France v South Africa (Group A)
The must watch game of the day has to be France versus hosts South Africa. France have been making headlines this World Cup, but for all the wrong reasons, and desperately need a victory if they are to stand any chance of progressing. Football romantics will want tournament hosts South Africa to remain in the competition, but they need a victory against the French, and to hope Uruguay and Mexico don't draw.
With all the unrest in the French camp, it's still uncertain whether France will actually turn up and play, which means we're unable to pick a player for our head-to-head! But if called into action, South Africa will be looking towards national icon Steven Pienaar who has yet to really put in a performance of his own high standards. Pienaar will be playing in the adidas F50 adiZero football boots, which are having a fantastic World Cup.
Will the French turn up and really give the World Cup a serious go, or will the high spirits of the South Africans be victorious?...have YOUR say and share your opinions on the World Cup!
