Football News - Nike Ball Man!
Nike's marketing department has been working overtime this World Cup, coming up with a host of creative and innovative ideas. So far, they've lit up a building in Johannesburg and pulled in some big star names including Arsene Wenger, Tinchy Stryder and Kobe Bryant. But with Nike's latest stunt they may have surpassed themselves!
Nike have unveiled a giant twenty-one metre tall footballer, constructed from 5,500 footballs and weighing more than 4.5 tons! The giant Ball Man is suspended from the atrium of the landmark Carlton Centre mall in Johannesburg, South Africa, where Nike have been displaying their revolutionary replica football kits alongside some suitably large Elite series football boots.
Nike's Ball Man was developed using a 3-D image of a player and then aligning each of the 5,500 skills balls to create the giant spectacle that dominates the atrium space. Strung together by over 10 kilometres of cable wire, and suspended from the atrium s ceiling, the installation took a full three weeks to put up.
Nike have made an impressive effort so far at this World Cup, and bearing in mind we're still only at the quarter finals stage, we can't wait to see what they've got planned for the final!
