Nike Green Teams - Brazil vs Holland

When Brazil play Holland in Port Elizabeth on Friday night, players on both teams will take to the pitch wearing the most environmentally-friendly and technologically advanced kit in football history!

The Brazil versus Holland match has been dubbed the Green Game , with Nike delivering enhanced performance with reduced environmental impact for the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Robinho. The jerseys are made entirely from recycled polyester, each one directly produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.

For this summer s World Cup finals, the Nike kits are more lightweight and have been designed to keep players drier, cooler and more comfortable, allowing them to maintain an optimum body temperature and perform at their best on the pitch.

What's more impressive is that Nike have achieved all this with their environmental impact in mind. Nike s fabric suppliers have sourced discarded plastic bottles from Japanese and Taiwanese landfill sites, and then melted them down to produce new yarn that was ultimately converted to fabric for the jerseys.

The kits are part of Nike s Considered Design programme, which aims to reduce or eliminate toxics and waste, increase the use of environmentally preferred materials and use Nike innovation to create more sustainable products.

Considering the environment doesn t mean having to sacrifice any of the renowned high performance of Nike s kits, the new range has been engineered to give players an even greater competitive advantage than ever before. Well done to Nike we say!
