Champions League Boot Race Update - Gameweek 3
There was more inspiring Champions League action lastnight, as once again the adidas F50 adizero's stole the show, but not before the Puma v1.10 SL had it's say! Check out Gameweek 3 of the SoccerBible's exclusive Champions League Boot Race, to find out how your favourite players and boots are performing!
Our team of extensive boot spotters present to you the ultimate Champions League Boot Race, charting all the goals and the football boots finding the back of the net in Europe's premier club competition. After the third round of matches, the adidas F50 adizero are continuing to dominate their bitter rival - the Nike Mercurial football boots.
Fans of the adizero will be pleased to see their favourite boot sitting top of the goal scoring charts, and although hope is not lost for Mercurial fans who see the Superfly and Vapor in second spot, lastnight's performances opened up an 8 goal lead! We've already seen the impact these boots are having on professional's all over the world, so perhaps there is little surprise that the adizero dominates this Boot Race. And it's interesting to see speed football boots thriving in possibly the fastest football competition on the planet!
Before lastnight's Champions League action the Mercurial range trailed the adizero by just 4 goals, but after a hat-trick from Gareth Bale, two goals from Lionel Messi and a solitary goal from Nani, the F50 football boots have pulled out a convincing lead over their Vapor Superfly rivals.
The dominance of the "Big Two" in Nike and adidas certainly shows in the goal scoring stakes - 8 out of the top 10 boots belong to either the three stripes or swoosh brands. Samuel Eto'o is pretty much single-handedly leading the charge for the rival brands, and with another two goals lastnight he's lifted the Puma v1 to joint 5th in the table on 8 goals. But undoubtedly, his evening was eclipsed by the performance of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale!
The stats don't make for much better reading in the Manufacturers Championship if you're a fan of the underdog brands, as here adidas take the lead again with a combined 60 goals, opening up a ten goal lead over Nike on 50! Of course, there are plenty of games and goals to be had before we crown the next European Champions at Wembley in May, but already it's turned into a two-horse race...
What's YOUR opinion on the great football boots rivalry, and which side are you on? It seems for a couple of years Nike Vapor sat quite pretty at the top of the goalscoring charts, but now the F50 adizero has shocked the speed world and is the dominant force...
