CTRUS Football Concept Wins Design Award

Some of you may have heard of the CTRUS football, but for many the news would easily have passed them by earlier on in the year when the concept was first presented to the world. Now, reaching the end of 2010, the CTRUS football is receiving recognition from the design world for its revolutionary new concepts.

Designed by AGENT, the CTRUS football has received the 2010 Red Dot Luminary Award (the largest and most renowned design award in the world) for its new football concept.

So, what's the idea behind the CTRUS football? Well for starters, it is the first soccer ball that you can see through. Also, a reinforced elastic structure means that the CTRUS doesn't require any air. As if that wasn't enough, the CTRUS football features GPD and RFID chips which keep track of the balls position and movement at all times, and makes it light up in different colours when the ball crosses the line or goes out of play.

The computer chips inside the ball are designed to wirelessly communicate with control stations within a stadium. They will be able to report back with accelerometers that measure the ball's kick force and travel speed. Also, there is a concept in place that will allow an in-built camera to offer footage from the balls point of view!

The CTRUS ball design is composed of a skelle-core inner structure along with an outer net-embedded shell made from reinforce elastomer's. These materials and structures work together to provide the bounce of an inflated soccer ball without the need of air.

Unfortunately, the CTRUS football design concept is just that - a concept. But, nonetheless we can still hope of a ball that would truly revolutionise the game! The idea of a football that would allow us to see the flight path of a Cristiano Ronaldo free kick might not be as far away as you think!
