January Transfer Window - Potential Movers
With the January transfer window fast approaching we thought we take a look at some of the rumours circulating the web. January is always an interesting time of the season as clubs look to strengthen their squads for the business end of the season. This being football, nothing is certain until the name is signed on the dotted line. Even so, it's still interesting to take a look at some of the players who could be on the move this January...
Manchester City: Its no secret that Manchester City are likely to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko when the January Transfer window opens. Manchester City are reported to have offered £30m for the striker and reports are starting to emerge that he could even make his debut against Arsenal on Wednesday!
Manchester United: Sir Alex Ferguson could be looking to raid Real Madrid for Lassana Diarra in the January transfer window. The offer would be expected to be in the £12m round area as Manchester Utd look to replace Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves.
Tottenham: Diarra has also caught the eye of Spurs boss Harry Redknap who is also thought to be monitoring the situation. Given that Diarra has previously played in North London for Arsenal, he may have more affinity with a move to the capital.
LA Galaxy: AC Milan have confirmed that they are willing to let their Brazilian play-maker Ronaldinho leave but only at the price of £8m. MLS side LA Galaxy are thought to be interested in bringing the player to the States.
Flamengo: Brazilian giants Flamengo are also thought to be in the race for Ronaldinho's signature. A move back to his homeland might be something the Brazilian would consider.
Manchester City: Bordeaux president has admitted Alou Diarra could be close to joining Manchester City. Diarra has established a reputation as one of Europe's most effect defensive mid-fielders and reports suggest City could prise him away in January.
Tottenham: According to reports in British newspapers, Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to sign David Beckham on a loan deal from LA Galaxy. Despite Beckham saying he wouldn't play for any other English team than Manchester United, his options may be limited.
Arsenal: The London club are considering a move for Real Madrid centre back Ezequiel Garay as manager Arsene Wenger scours Europe for a top defender to help bolster Arsenal's defensive frailties.
Manchester City: The big spenders are reportedly willing to offer Real Madrid's centre back, Pepe as much as eighty thousand pounds a week. Pepe's current contract at Madrid is set to expire at the end of next season and he has so far been reluctant to sign a new contract.
Arsenal: Reports are emerging that Arsenal are trying to tempt Barcelona wonder-kid Thiago Alcantara into considering a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United: There is also interest from Manchester United who have reportedly been in touch with Alcantara's father for an update on his current contract situation.
West Ham: Everton striker Yakubu could be set for a January exit from Everton after expressing his desire for a move to West Ham United. The Nigerian was approached by the Hammers during the summer transfer window.
Celtic: It looks like a deal is almost complete that will bring former Arsenal player Freddie Ljunberg to the SPL with Celtic. Ljunberg, who will become a free agent on January 1st, has been training with Celtic and a deal is expected soon.
Tottenham: Spurs are in pole position for Steven Pienaar's signature. Pienaar's days at Everton look to be numbered and Spurs could be willing to offer £2m which would tempt Everton to cash in before he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Lazio: Out-of-favour Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz has snubbed a loan move to Lazio because he wants a permanent deal. With Edin Dzeko likely to be coming in, we'd be very surprised if Santa-Cruz is still a Man City player come the end of January.
Inter Milan: OK, so we know Fernando Torres is unlikely to go anywhere in January but new Inter Milan boss Leonardo has earmarked a summer move for the Liverpool striker. With Liverpool's struggling form, is it only a matter of time before he moves on?
