Newcastle United have accepted Liverpool's £35m bid for Andy Carroll, a British record transfer fee that will lead to the departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea ahead of tonight's transfer deadline.

"Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll," said a statement on Liverpool's website.

"The club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical."

Liverpool, who have also completed the £22.8m signing of striker Luis SuÁrez from Ajax, moved for the 22-year-old offer this morning.

Newcastle confirmed the Carroll deal: "A transfer request has been accepted by Newcastle United for Magpies striker Andy Carroll. The 22-year-old England international has this afternoon handed in a transfer request, which has reluctantly been accepted by the club, and Carroll is currently in talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield."

Newcastle turned down their initial bid of £25m but made it clear they would consider selling their prized asset for an extra £10m. Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, then agreed to a club-record transfer and are now waiting for the St James Park outfit to ratify the transfer.

The centre-forward has only played a total of 41 games at Premier League level and has courted controversy off the field during his brief career.

As always, we'd love to get you're opinions on this sensational transfer. Do you think it is a good move for LFC? Will Carroll be able to handle the pressure of having such a high price-tag on his head?
