Record Breaking Boot Count
The Premier League went into overdrive this weekend with a record amount of goals scored over Saturday and Sunday's fixtures! Newcastle staged one of the greatest comebacks in Premier League history, Wolves ended Manchester United's unbeaten run and Carlos Tevez celebrated his birthday with a first half hat-trick! Records were broken on the Saturday with a total of 41 goals being scored - 5 more than the previous record!
We thought it would be a good idea to take a look at how the weekend boot-tally stacked up after all 43 weekend goals had hit the back of the net!
The adizero boots came out on top with an impressive total of 13 goals - partly thanks to the excellence of Louis Saha's 4-goal performance against Blackpool! The French striker, who is on incredible form at present, found the back of the net 4 times as Everton beat Blackpool 5-3 in what is being called game of the season! Saha has previously been a Nike Vapor wearer, but after this performance we think he'll be more than comfortable wearing the adiZero's for some time now!
The adiZero boots are currently leading the speed-boot line for goals scored this season in the Premier League. Already a popular choice for strikers and wingers, the adiZero boots have converted a number of Vapor wearers and are currently the speed boot to catch in the EPL!
Unsurprisingly, the ever-present adidas Predator boots were in amongst the goals this weekend with a total of 10 finding the back of the net. Two goals from both Joey Barton and Robin van Persie contributed 4 along with a last minute winner from Tottenham midfielder Niko Kranjcar!
The Croatian, who is only at Tottenham due to a lack of January bids, netted home the last minute winner against Bolton to win the game 2-1 for the London side. It was a vital goal that keeps Tottenham's hopes of a top-four finish well and truly alive.
The CTR360 football boots can always rely on Carlos Tevez to provide the goals! The Argentinian celebrated his birthday with a first half hat-trick for Manchester City against West Brom that brought his tally to 18 league goals this season!
Tevez is still wearing the original CTR football boots which we think is either for superstitious reasons, or for the fact that they match the City home strip! Either way, it will be interesting to see how long the original CTR's keep him out of the CTR II boots that are currently being worn by team mate James Milner. We think Tevez would be happy to trade one of his three goals for one this Saturday when Manchester City take on Manchester United!
The Nike Tiempo Legend boots aren't known for being worn by prolific goal scorers but that didn't stop them being on the end of some important finishes at the weekend! The most important of all being that of Raul Mareilles who scored the winning goal for Liverpool against Chelsea. The Liverpool midfielder carried on his fine goal-scoring form with a second half strike that saw Liverpool turn over the Champions once again!
Liverpool didn't miss Fernando Torres who lined up against them in the Chelsea's side for the first time. The dream debut was spoilt by a strong Liverpool performance who didn't have to rely on the services of their new £24m signing, Louis Suarez.
It was a relatively quiet weekend for the Nike Vapor Superfly boots that were only on the end of 3 Premier League goals. Theo Walcott scored the first of 8 dramatic goals at St. James Park. Walcott is one of 4 attacking Arsenal players who wear the Superfly II football boots including Andrei Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh.
The wingers strike came after just 45 seconds as Arsenal finished the first half 4-0 up! Miraculously, Newcastle staged one of the most memorable comebacks in Premier League history by scoring 4 second half goals along with a wrongly disallowed offside goal!
Last season, they were worn by a Wayne Rooney who was in the form of his life and as a result, were on the end of 26 league goals! The same can't be said this season despite the boots being worn by two of the leagues deadliest strikers; Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney. The T90 Laser III boots scored 2 goals to the record-breaking 43 at the weekend.
One of these goals was scored by Blackpool English defender Alex Baptiste who contributed to Blackpool's fine attempts to over turn Everton at Goddison Park.
The Puma King Finale boots only scored one goal at the weekend, but Kevin Doyle's header against Manchester Untied was arguably the most important! The Irish strikers goal that completed the Wolves comeback, was the winning goal after 90 minutes, putting an end to United's unbeaten run.
Wolves have established an incredible record against the top sides this season, taking maximum points off Chelsea and Manchester Untied. They will now travel to Arsenal this coming Saturday full of belief they can achieve the same!
Umbro will have been pleased to make the record-breaking score sheet at the weekend thanks to Kyle Walkers long range belter that had Gerard Houllier's men back in front, only for Clint Dempsey to head in the leveller soon after.
Walker was wearing the Umbro Stealth II Pro football boots that are experiencing a growing following among professionals and amateurs!
The Puma PowerCat football boots also made the long list of goal scoring boots at the weekend (even though the goal came from a header!) Johan Djorou scored his first goal for Arsenal against Newcastle Untied in a first half that couldn't have contrasted more to the second. After a good start for the Swiss defender, he was later forced off through injury as his side conceded a staggering 4 goals in the second half.
The Puma PowerCat football boots are a popular choice for defenders and defensive mid-fielders with the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Michael Carrick both wearing Puma's power boots.
As always, we'd love to hear your opinions. Off all the 43 goals scored at the weekend, which one tops your list?
