Beckham returns in LA Galaxy defeat
David Beckham gave Los Angeles Galaxy fans plenty of reason to cheer in his return match on Wednesday, despite Mexico's Club Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente defeating the Major League Soccer team 4-3 in a shoot-out.
David Beckham is back on American soil after his training spell with Tottenham Hotspur. He returned to a jeering set of Club Tijuana fans who, just feet from the pitch of the USD's Toerero Stadium, didn't hold back in trying to knock Beckham off his game...
Despite losing 4-3 in a shoot-out, Beckham showed promising signs throughout his 74 minute appearance. He showed the Galaxy faithful that his ability is still not to be questioned. Fans witnessed a trademark Beckham cross that was astutely met by the head of Omar Gonzalez in Wednesday's San Diego Clasico. Beckham didn't hesitate to turn towards the fans and put a finger to his lips. Beckham's perfectly executed delivery proved that even at 35, the veteran midfielder has still got it and will be one of Galaxy's key assets going into the new season.
After being spotted training in an all white pair of adidas Predator adiPower football boots, Beckham was back in his signature DB Predator soccer shoes for Wednesday's match-up. It will be exciting to see whether adidas continue Beckham's bespoke range of signature Predator boots with their new adiPower range expected later this year.
Beckham will be expected to play a full season this year for Galaxy after questions previously being raised over his commitment to the club. A string of injuries, that were arguably the result of playing too much football for loan sides such as AC Milan, has seen Beckham play just 48 of 103 regular season games since joining the Galaxy in 2007.
After building his fitness with Tottenham Hotspur after failing to secure a short-term loan contract, Beckham now returns to the Galaxy in good shape. Wednesdays match was Beckham's first since the clubs friendly in Australia in November.
The exhibition game was part of LA Galaxy's preparation for the new MLS season that begins on March 20.
