Football Talk - Wenger determined to keep duo
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri will stay at the club, despite speculation linking the duo with a move away from the Emirates.
Nasri has yet to agree terms on a new contract and, with his current deal expiring next summer, could leave on a free if Arsenal do not sell him, while Fabregas has once again been linked to his boyhood club Barcelona.
Wenger argues that Nasri needs to stay at the club in order to fulfil his true potential as a player, while Fabregas, the Frenchman argued, would stay for 'a long time'.
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus have all been linked with Nasri, but Wenger insists that he wants to keep the 23-year-old in London.
"We will do everything to keep Nasri at the club. My wish is that he stays here," Wenger told The Sun ''If he looks back he can see that he's come quite a long way with us, and I think there is still a bit to do. It's the club that makes the player's career."
The club's majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is set to give the green light to increase Nasri's original offer to nearer the £110,000-per-week he is looking for.
The new offer is also understood to include a number of lucrative performance-related bonuses.
Arsenal have also had to deal with more reports that captain Cesc Fabregas will ask for a transfer to Barcelona this summer, but Wenger insists that the Spain star will be at the Emirates for a long time yet.
"I will be pretty clear about this. For me, Fabregas is with Arsenal for a long time and he will stay with Arsenal," Wenger said. "It sometimes happens that the rumour can make the transfer.
"Next year will see the introduction of the financial fair play system, which will limit the big transfers. I think this is the last year that the summer will be hot - very hot."
