adidas adiPURE IV SL Play Test
Following on from our adidas Predator adiPower play-test, SoccerBible is excited to bring you our verdict on one of the years most premium soccer shoes - the adidas adiPURE IV SL. A boot built around class, the super-light adiPURE is a marriage of heritage and innovation.
Although the adiPURE SL is a limited release, the technology used will become a regular feature in future adiPURE generations. We've had our hands on the white/black/gold release for some weeks now, putting the boot through its paces. It hasn't failed to impress! Take a look and share your thoughts online.
Before we delve into the performance of the adiPURE IV SL, let's get one thing out of the way. The white/black/gold adiPURE SL football boots are without doubt one of the best looking soccer shoes available right now. There have been no expenses spared in the design and construction of this boot. From the gold stitching to the 'SL' branding, the boot leaves no stone unturned. A shining example of how to bring a classic design into the modern day.
Having worn the boots a number of times since their official launch in April, we were aware of the expected breaking in period. On day one of testing, they did require a longer breaking in time when compared to the adiZero and adiPower. If you're thinking of wearing these for an upcoming match, we'd suggest a minimum of 1-2 sessions before they become fully adjusted to your foot.
Once the breaking in stage passed (during day two of testing), the adiPURE SL football boots went from strength to strength. They soon became one of the most comfortable boots we've ever worn here at SoccerBible - and we're lucky enough to wear a lot of boots! The one-piece kangaroo leather upper is super soft, and allowed for a very effective mould to the shape of our foot.
Complimenting the comfort of the leather upper is the new tongue design, which offers much needed protection to a vulnerable part of the foot. The tongue stays in position and feels like it provides more padding than the previous adiPURE, allowing exceptional fit and enabling a clean strike of the ball.br>
We understand that the combination of lightweight and soft K-Leather are crucial components of what the adiPURE IV SL should represent and adidas tick both boxes by ensuring we felt sharp and ready for that sudden burst of pace, whilst maintaining the classic leather feel.
Despite the sole-plate feeling slightly stiff at first, we found it became more flexible and reactive to player movement the longer we played for. The sole-plate issue was quickly forgotten once the qualities and class of the adiPURE SL shone through. The SL provided a classic alternative to the F50 adiZero, showing us that speed and heritage is an exciting combination!
The shape of the adidas adiPURE IV SL allows players to wear their normal sized boot as the SL is a true fit, allowing sufficient manoeuvrability for the foot inside the boot. We felt like we were wearing a boot made from the highest quality leather whilst well aware that we looked the business!
Throughout the test we failed to find any signs of damage to the adiPURE SL with the boot excelling in all the rigorous SoccerBible play test drills. This is the ultimate heritage boot and one of the best looking we've ever had the privilege of play testing and we can't wait to see the adiPURE SL gracing the surfaces of elite pitches next season.
