Football Talk - Rooney Banned For Euro 2012 Group Stage
Wayne Rooney is set to miss the entire group stage of Euro 2012 after the England striker was hit with a three-match ban for his sending off against Montenegro.
The question now is whether it s worth taking England s talismanic striker to the finals at all, given that he will sit out the first three matches.
The consensus seems to be that he is so important to the side that it is worth the risk.
Rooney is reported to be shocked and disappointed after being shown a straight red card for kicking out during last week's 2-2 draw.
The Football Association had been hoping that Rooney would escape with a lesser punishment despite the regulations confirming an appropriate three-match suspension.
Capello has admitted Rooney is unlikely to start any of the Euro 2012 warm-up games, although there is a right to appeal should the FA choose to do so.
The Manchester United striker would be available to play if England did qualify from their group but the question is whether he is worth taking to the tournament next summer.
