Inspired By An Icon - 'New Blue' Umbro Collection
Few other brands can boast such an acclaim to football and culture than Umbro. Inspired by their most iconic garment, the Anthem Jacket, Umbro's latest capsule collection of sportswear is English tailoring at its finest! Never afraid of being inspired by their past, Umbro have hit the archives once more!
For the Umbro New Blue collection, a selection of key Umbro silhouettes have been given the textured denim-like appearance that alludes to the years of continuous training, washing and hard-wearing. Share your thoughts online.
Since its introduction in the 1950s, the Umbro drill top has become an iconic symbol both on and off the pitch and has been worn by some of football's greats. It has seen many manifestations throughout the years, however it is widely remembered for being blue in colour with collars and ribbing.
Now part of the Umbro archive, the inspired drill top has experienced a lifetime of wear and tear. The product's weathered appearance caused the Umbro design team to set about creating a product line which reflected the worn and distressed look of the garment.
A staple of many footballer's kitbags, the drill top is also famous for its off-field action. In 1996, Oasis staged some of their biggest gigs at Maine Road, Manchester City's old ground. Liam Gallagher famously walked on stage wearing the classic Umbro drill top!
Of all the pieces in the Umbro New Blue collection, the crew sweat shirt is most directly inspired by the classic drill top. The sweatshirt has the unique tonal effect on the collar, hem and cuffs, and is crafted in the same chambray blue colour. With a modern sleeve construction to offer improved fit and a comfortable fleece material used to craft the sweatshirt, this is a great modern interpretation of a classic!
The Umbro New Blue range includes: the Woven Anthem Jacket, the Track Jacket, the Crew Sweat and the Graphic Tee and is available to order now from www.umbro.com. Share your thoughts online.
