A Captain's Lethal Zones

A Captain's Lethal Zones

In three games at Euro 2012 England captain Steven Gerrard has assisted three goals. The midfielder has been in terrific form, and as he's wearing his new Predatror LZ football boots adidas have given us a unique insight into which areas of the boot Gerrard is taking advantage of....

The concept behind the Predator Lethal Zones was to identify which areas of the boots, players come into contact with the ball. To see how this concept works in the real world, adidas have identified every touch of the ball Gerrard made in both the Ukraine and Sweden games, to show which Lethal Zones the midfielder is utilising.

Unsurprisingly as a central midfielder, the majority of Gerrard's touches have been 'First Touch' and 'Pass', where he is receiving and distributing the ball. It's an interesting insight into how adidas' technology is implemented in the context of a game, and stats which we imagine would be amplified for fellow Pred wearer Xavi.

Recently appointed captain Steven Gerrard has excelled in the role, leading former Predator wearer and midfield great Patrick Vieira to comment: "As a manager, or if you are one of the players, you are looking for a leader in the team - someone to show you the way. Steven Gerrard is the main man for England. I never understood the captaincy issue in this country because for me there is only one person who should be captain and that is Steven Gerrard. He never hides and I'm pleased he is doing well for the national team."

Despite only scoring 3 goals so far at Euro 2012, The Predator LZ football boots are having a good tournament thanks to the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xavi and Thomas Muller. We'd love to hear your thoughts so far on Gerrard, England, Predator LZ and Euro 2012, so join the conversation online.
