Di Vaio: Italian Legends Come Together

Di Vaio: Italian Legends Come Together

Marco Di Vaio is one of Italy's most iconic and prolific strikers. The proud Italian at the youthful age of 36 has taken his goalscoring instincts to the MLS, but he's brought a little bit of home with him in the form of Italy's most iconic boot brand.

Pictured in training, Marco Di Vaio has been given a made-to-measure and uniquely designed pair of Pantofola d'Oro football boots. The legendary Italian brand, famed for craftsmanship since 1886, have tailor-made a pair of boots for one of Major League Soccer's most slippery and evasive strikers, who boasts a prolific and consistent goalscoring record stretching back to 1997.

Di Vaio left Bologna of Italy's Serie A a hero, a striker who averaged around 15 goals in the last five seasons, this in a league famed for defending. Di Vaio plays with his brain first and foremost, often popping up far away from the centre backs to help out a passing move, then seemingly vanishing before turning up in a dangerous spot behind the defence. He may be 36 years of age, but you don't lose that intelligence on the field.

The Pantofola d'Oro football boots Di Vaio has been wearing are a simple yet effective compliment to his playing style. A quality leather upper, shaped and stitched to perform, it's becoming more of a rarity in the modern market but is something that's served footballers for over 50 years. The look is clean and classy, all-white but with the recognisable Three Stars enlarged for more of an on-pitch presence to compete with the likes of adidas, Nike and Puma.

The model isn't one we've seen before, there are echoes of the Platino, Squadra, Corner and Assist, but this boot looks to be the product of conversations between Pantofola d'Oro and Di Vaio. For two legends of Italian football, this is a great opportunity to promote il Tricolore in the MLS, and there's been quite a revolution already with Alessandro Nesta and Matteo Ferrari also plying their trade stateside.

For Di Vaio this is another chapter in a celebrated career, which has seen the striker turn out for an impressive list of clubs, including - Bologna, Juventus, Parma, Lazio, Monaco and Valencia. Whilst for Pantofola d'Oro it's an opportunity to reach out to a new market, one that might not aware of their pedigree in football or more appropriately should we say soccer.

Let us know what you think of Di Vaio's Pantofola d'Oro football boots, it seems a perfect match, two stalwarts of Italian football coming together
