Andy Caine - Nike Designer Interview

Andy Caine - Nike Designer Interview

Andy Caine has the dream job. On a daily basis he liaises with the world's top athletes, travels the globe, and designs the latest Nike football gear. This is selling the dream, but the reality and responsibility of Andy's role is an unenviable task of fusing innovative products with football's bold characters; to create unique, wearable, eye-catching and functional products...

The continual task that faces Andy Caine is a reality that differs from the perceived dreamscape. As a designer or creative director you live and stand by your creations. Andy has to constantly wow the footballing public, in a competitive market, whilst keeping the world's most iconic footballers happy.

When we had the chance to catch up with Andy at the recent CR7 Collection launch, it was the opportunity to get his thoughts on the intersection between culture and football. Ask why the new CR7 range has taken such a different approach, and find out what keeps a designer's mind inspired?

Andy Caine is the Creative Director of Global Football at Nike, the team with which he works are charged with designing the latest most innovative products in a dynamic market, and keeping Nike ahead of their competitors. The CR7 Collection once again takes Nike in a new and different direction, in which they take Cristiano Ronaldo's off-pitch persona as the inspiration for a more stylish and sophisticated range.

Our conversation with Andy provides us with an insight into the working mind of Nike, and to understand the process of creating a new range. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the continual challenge facing the creative team at Nike, and of course on the new CR7 Collection. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
