Steven Gerrard's Predators: 1st Cap & 100th Cap Boots
Steven Gerrard's remarkable England career spans no more than eight adidas Predator generations. Following his exclusive on-pitch debut of the latest Predator LZ colourway to commemorate his 100th international cap, the England and Liverpool skipper is back where he belongs - in the black, red white!
One man, one boot. That's been the story of Steven Gerrard's career. For so long he's been loyal servant to the adidas Predator range. From his 1st England cap to his landmark 100th, he's become one of the true adidas Predator legends, with an international career that began way back with the Predator Precision.
In the boot world, there's only one way to get a true perspective of time. Stick one of the games modern day performers next to an iconic boot of yesteryear and suddenly you realise how time changes things! Steven Gerrard first stepped out in an England shirt wearing the adidas Predator Precision - the fifth generation Predator release in 2000. One hundred caps later and he's still delivering the goods wearing the adidas Predator LZ.
Gerrard was handed his international debut in England's final home friendly before Euro 2000. Kevin Keegan named Gerrard in his squad for the European Championships and the Liverpool midfielder enjoyed his first match for England the day after his 20th birthday against Ukraine. This began Gerrard's international journey wearing the adidas Predator.
The adidas Predator Precision was launched prior to the EURO 2000 championships, as adidas continued their tradition of releasing a brand new Predator boot during a major championship year. The adidas Predator Precision was the first Predator boot to make the transition from rubber fins to thinner, more frequent ribs which increased the spin that could be put on the ball. Nowadays, the look of adidas' most iconic boot is much different.
Over the course of the adidas Predator evolution, Steven Gerrard has seen it all. A boot traditionalist at heart, the England skipper will feel a lot more comfortable wearing adidas' latest Black/White/Red colourway. Seeing the Liverpool man make those driving runs in a bright blue pair of Preds never did look right!
It all began with the Predator Precision and Euro 2000. Now with Brazil 2014 on the horizon, will Steven Gerrard's international career reach another Predator generation? It's 100 caps and counting for one of England's most celebrated players. We think he'll be sticking with this particular adidas Predator LZ colourway for a little while!
