SoccerBible Meets Kevin-Prince Boateng
We recently sat down with Kevin-Prince Boateng for a few words about life as a Nike athlete. Speaking to SoccerBible after flying into Berlin to visit the streets where he used to play football, the AC Milan forward gave his thoughts amongst other things on his favourite Nike boots and the CR Mercurial series.
Kevin-Prince - known as 'The Ghetto Kid' in the streets of Wedding, Berlin - has been a Nike athlete since his earliest days as professional footballer and it's clear the bravado of Boateng sits well will within team Nike. "Nike is crazy. Crazy stuff, crazy shoes, crazy colours. I love crazy things and that's why me and Nike forever."
Despite recent changes in boot models, Kevin-Prince is for the most part regarded as a Mercurial player, taking much inspiration from Nike's first superstar of speed."The (Mercurial) R9 from the real Fenomeno Ronaldo with the silver, yellow and blue. They were crazy and if they were to bring them back I would play in them." It's worth noting that at this time, Kevin-Prince wasn't aware of Nike's intentions!
Arriving with giant headphones over his head and a gold chain around his neck, Kevin-Prince Boateng takes pride in his off-pitch style - this guy gets his hair cut twice a week! When asked his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo's signature Mercurial line, the striker made it clear that he has his own ambitions of bringing KPB's style to the game.
"Players who get the chance to design their own boots, they've made it. They're the top of the top and I've always said to Nike that I want to arrive there, I want to design my own boots. If I have the chance to make my own football boots, they'd be the craziest football boots you'd ever see in your life!"
He's certainly one of Nike's biggest characters who is continuing to elevate his status. We're sure it won't be long before he's lacing up in a pair of Nike's limited edition Vapor R9 boots! Be sure to watch the full video to hear more from Kevin-Prince Boateng.
