Talking PUMA evoSPEED Camo With Pascal Van Essen
The new PUMA evoSPEED Camo has really caught the imagination of the boot world. Speaking exclusively to SoccerBible, Global Head of PUMA Team Sports Pascal Van Essen sat down to discuss the limited edition design and its relationship with last season's 'Razzle Dazzle' evoSPEED.
PUMA take a unique approach to their test models. "We do a lot of testing and test shoes within football tend to be black, then people also started testing white shoes. When you look at other industries - the car industry as a good example - they tend to put much more effort into hiding their newness, while also using it as a teaser for what's to come."
"The original inspiration (of the PUMA evoSPEED CAMO) actually comes from a colour blind test", explained Pascal. "We felt that this was a nice element that we could integrate into the shoe while somewhat hiding the actual design of the product."
We have done testing and (the boots) play a mind trick. When you're wearing it, they look very unique and that's what makes them fun. We know that we're only catering for a few people so we know we can make the boots as crazy as we want."
PUMA will hand the evoSPEED 1.2 CAMO to star strikers Radamel Falcao and Sergio Aguero for the following two weekend's of fixtures. Manchester City striker Aguero will wear the distinctive 'virtual pink' boots in City's FA Cup final match against Wigan at Wembley Stadium next week, while Atletico Madrid front-man Falcao will put them into action against Deportivo and Barcelona.
The PUMA evoSPEED 1.2 CAMO is available to pre-order now at selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. We can't wait to see these boots on pitch! Let us know what you think of the wacky design.
