The 2013 Pack Attack - Best Four Silo Collections
2013 Pack Attack - Best Four Silo Collections
We look back at a year of boot collection releases.
Good things come in fours, at least that's been the case over the past 12 months as adidas and Nike set a trend of releasing all four of their silos as part of themed packs. Dropping all their boots at once has made boot selection easier for players as well as creating stronger brand presence on the professional scene.
With each brand adding a new weapon to their armoury with the Nitrocharge and HyperVenom, both adidas and Nike have had a new toy to play with. From matching colourways to vibrant twists on each silo, here's our look back at the 2013 pack attack.
Nike Stealth Pack - Nike got the pack ball rolling in June when they turned the lights off by launching their Stealth Pack. A toned down, stealth like pack designed for a mean look with no fuss, no garish colourways, just Nike's latest technologies disguised in stylish black paint jobs. Phil McCartney, VP of Footwear for Nike Football nailed it when he said We know that our players love to stand out on and off the field. That doesn t always mean bright colors, sometimes reverting to a classic look is just as powerful a statement. Can't argue with that.
Nike Hi-Vis Pack - With the nights getting longer Nike landed their Hi-Vis Pack in late September to tie in with the launch of their Hi-Vis Incyte match ball. Another four silo collection each plastered with a bright colourway to stand out on pitch throughout the winter months. The unmissable foursome of boots dominated Europe's elite pitches up until December and the theme extended across Nike's futsal range, the FC247 Collection.
adidas Enlightened Pack - To coincide with the Champions League midweek fixtures adidas launched their unique Enlightened Pack designed with reflective exposure innovation on the famous three stripes to rebound visuals from floodlights and camera flashes. By blacking out each silo adidas created the perfect backdrop for the reflective stripes to sit on and although they were only worn for one game they were thrown in front of a global audience as one of the most unique boot collections ever seen.
adidas Samba Pack - In November adidas kicked off the countdown to Brazil 2014 by launching the Samba Pack. Inspired by the colourful lifestyle and carnival spirit of the World Cup's host country, the Samba Pack consisted of bright new paint jobs across all four of adidas' silo's, as well as debut outings for the new generation F50 and adiPURE. Capturing the culture of the country adidas plastered each boot with a blast of Brazilian flavour making it one of the most memorable pack releases of 2013.
adidas Black Pack - Now that adidas had a taste of the pack party they were quick to return with a fresh crate of releases labelled the Black Series. The Nitrocharge, Predator LZ, F50 and 11Pro all took on predominately black paint jobs with a blast of coloured details for a more understated vibe. A change in contrast from the Samba Pack, the Black Series offered traditional boot fans perfect alternatives.
Nike Premier Celebration Pack - Not strictly a four silo collection, but the Premier Celebration Pack is worthy of a slot here. The Premier, which wasn't included in any previous collections, received its own pack treatment being released in tribute to three of Nike's most recognised nations ahead of the World Cup. A crimson colourway for England, a blue colour up for France and a yellow wrap for Brazil.
Nike Flash Pack - Nike upped the pack launch tempo in December and landed their own reflective technology on a collection of boots. The Flash Pack dropped across the Mercurial, HyperVenom, Tiempo and CTR. Using reflective patterns in the shape of some of natures most stealth-like creates Nike had created a whiteout collection of boots, each identified by a block coloured sole.
Nike Energy Pack - Nike rounded off the year by making it a hat trick of December pack releases with the launch of the Energy collection. Armed with a new generation Tiempo Legend and commemorative Mercurial the Energy Pack took on a vibrant design with the collection being tied together with a trademark silver tongue on each silo.
