Global Football Boots Spotting - 23/12/13
Global Boot Spotting - 23/12/13
The pick of the week's best football boots from across the globe.
As we enter the madness of the Christmas fixture rush it was another busy week of boot spotting action. We've picked out the best of the weeks boots on show as PUMA announced they've bought themselves an early Christmas present in the form of Mario Balotelli and Nike's flurry of bright colour ups landed on pitch...
Mario Balotelli (AC Milan) PUMA evoPOWER Stampa |
The boot headlines were once again stolen by Mario Balotelli this weekend. The AC Milan striker confirmed the rumours by announcing that he has in fact signed a deal with PUMA by lacing up in another customised newspaper boot in the Milan derby. A top class marketing stunt from PUMA who have pulled off huge signing just in time to launch their new evoPOWER silo. |
Robert Lewandowski (Borussia Dortmund) Nike HyperVenom |
Robert Lewandowski gave us a cheeky glimpse of the next HyperVenom colourway at the weekend. Just days after Nike revealed the Neo Lime HyperVenom the Borussia Dortmund striker has jumped the gun by wearing the blue/black/yellow update that is scheduled for release in February. |
Paul Pogba (Juventus) Nike CTR360 Maestri III |
Paul Pogba continued his fine form this season by scoring in Juventus' 4-1 win at Atalanta on Sunday. Pogba has moved into the latest bright orange CTR colourway and given his new boots some personalisation treatment by adding his name and a French flag. |
Pedro (Barcelona) Nike Mercurial Vapor IX |
No Messi? No Neymar? No problem. Pedro was on fire for Barcelona on Sunday as his 9 minute hat trick put Barca on their way to a 5-2 win at Getafe. Laced up in the new Nike Mercurial Vapor IX colourway and created in honour of the 1998 version Pedro struck three times to ensure Barca lead at half time after being 2-0 down. Pedro has customised his Mercurials with a sole plate that first featured on the Vapor VI, a trend he has continued to follow on previous generations of the boot. |
Vuyani Ntangu (Bloemfontein Celtic) adidas Yamamoto adizero F50 |
One of the craziest boot launches of the year was without doubt the adidas Yamamoto adizero F50. The boots came with a story and with just 2000 pairs released were a rare spot on pitch. Vuyani Ntangu of South African side Bloemfontein Celtic managed to get hold of a pair and rather than keeping them in a cabinet has laced up to pull off a bold on-pitch look. |
Joey Barton (QPR) Nike Tiempo Legend V |
Joey Barton mixed things up at the weekend by switching brands to wear the new Nike Tiempo Legend V. Barton, who had previously featured in promotional work with adidas for the Nitrocharge opted to don the Swoosh as he got sent off in his side's 1-0 defeat in their top of the table clash with Leicester. |
Bruce Djite (Adelaide United) Nike HyperVenom |
The Nike reflective pack may have been one of the most impressive collections released in recent months but when it comes to on-pitch time Nike have kept their athletes in standard colourways. The all white HyperVenom has made its way down under however, and was spotted on the feet of Adelaide United's Bruce Djiti at the weekend. |
Cole Skuse (Ipswich Town) Pantofola d'Oro 1920 Vitello |
Cole Skuse has been on our boot spotting radar for a number of seasons now, the Ipswich midfielder shares our love of Pantofola d'Oro and has been loyal to the brand for years. When players are making headlines in brightly coloured speed boots Skuse is pulling off a different level of cool by sporting a pair of stylish 1920 Vitellos. Class. |
Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United) Nike HyperVenom |
Adnan Januzaj is quickly forcing his way into David Moyes' starting eleven at Old Trafford. The youngster capped another impressive performance with a goal against West Ham as all three of United's forwards slipped into the Neo Lime HyperVenom. It made for a strong visual presence when Welbeck, Rooney and Januzaj were all bombing forward. |
Carlos (Atletico Madrid) adidas adiPURE 11Pro |
The black/white/slime adidas adiPURE 11Pro colourway landed after the craziness of the Samba Pack had blown over and gave players their first real look at what the new design was all about. Old school, subtle and based on comfort Ateltico Madrid's Carlos took on the reserved look in the Copa del Rey in midweek. |
David McGoldrick (Ipswich Town) Nike Premier |
Another Ipswich player that caught our eye over the weekend was David McGoldrick wearing the France edition Nike Premier colourway. Nike launched the boot in a trio of colourways, one for England, one for Brazil and this one celebrating France's World Cup win in 1998 and it just so happens that it's the perfect match for Ipswich's home kit. |
Luke Brattan (Brisbane Roar) Nike Tiempo Legend V |
Luke Brattan of Brisbane Roar was another player to offer a sneak peek of what's to come in 2014 for Nike. His black/white Tiempo Legend V boots are expected to land within the next couple of months and we've got a feeling they're going to be pretty popular. |
Connor Pain (Melbourne Victory) Nike CTR360 Maestri III |
The Nike flash pack seems to be popular in the A-League, another player spotted in the CTR version was Melborune Victory's Connor Pain. It's hard to notice the reflective aspect when the game is played during daylight but when the floodlights catch the boots at night they give off a unique visual effect. |
