It's the start of what's sure to be an exciting partnership as PUMA confirm the signing of Mario Balotelli with the launch of a special edition model of their upcoming evoPOWER boot. Titled the Stampa the design is the second incarnation of Balotelli's much hyped headline-inspired boots worn last week against Roma.
As suspected it was the clever marketing minds at PUMA behind the PR stunt that quickly sent the football world into a frenzy. Now they're back for a second slice of the action, hooking up their star signing with another special edition evoPOWER - PUMA's newest boot model that will officially launch in the new year.
The boots will have the eyes of Italy on them tonight with Balotelli giving them their first taste of Serie A action in the Milan derby. Plastered with a 'Why Always PUMA' decal on the outside of the boot, Balotelli's special evoPOWER boots will be released by PUMA in limited numbers, going on pre-sale from 8AM GMT tomorrow.
The PR stunt which began last week has exploded across every media channel, breaking all kinds of social media records and reaching European national newspapers - a tidy Christmas bonus should be in order for the PUMA team responsible! The reaction has shown just why Balotelli is PUMA's biggest signing to date.
Speaking about the new partnership with PUMA, Mario Balotelli said: This is a great move for me. From the early conversations I had with PUMA it was clear that they understand me, my personality and my ambition. The product and marketing plans they have developed are very exciting and I will be proud to be associated with everything I have seen. I am sure that the coming years will bring many good things for us all.
As for the evoPOWER boots themselves, PUMA have given us a better look at them with a set of images. They mark a new chapter for PUMA Football who will retire the PowerCat series following the launch of the new model. The boots will feature a revolutionary new upper material exclusive to PUMA - something that we're very excited about. But more to come on that at another date.
