Atletico Madrid have showcased their new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium as a new state-of-the-art pitch is laid and the changing rooms are finished. Having spent the past 50 years at the Vicente Calderón, Atleti will host their first game at their new home on September 16 against Malaga.
Atletico Madrid have revealed a first look at the new playing surface as it was installed, and also a peek inside their brand new home dressing room of their ultra-modern new stadium, which will host Champions League football for the first time when Chelsea come to town on September 27.
The 68,000 seater stadium has been designed with character, a rarity for a modern 'bowl-like' ground. Atleti have ensure the fans are as close to the pitch as possible and that comfort is in place throughout from the turnstiles to the seats. The Vicente Calderón was one of the most unique and charismatic football stadiums in the world, but the move to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium gives Atletico Madrid the platform to mix it with the world's best, both on and off the pitch.
Atletico Madrid have also opened the doors to their new home dressing rooms where the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Koke will enter ahead of that opening game against Malaga. Atleti have played their first few La Liga games away from home as the final touches were being made to their new stadium and they're sure to be backed by a raucous crowd when they take to the pitch to begin their new chapter.
The state-of-the-art treatment continues outside of the stadium as the club have installed €240million worth of lights to illuminate the ground in their team colours.
