It's happened. Cristiano Ronaldo has been unveiled as the cover star for EA Sports FIFA 18. The Real Madrid man features in the debut trailer of the new game and in turn will front the cover of the world's most popular football video game for the first time.
Having cut ties with Konami and Pro Evolution Soccer CR7 freed himself up to jump ship to EA Sports and they've wasted no time slapping him on the cover of FIFA 18 on the back of his double winning year with Real Madrid. For the new trailer EA Sports took a mobile motion capture studio to Madrid to analyse Ronaldo's technique and characteristics on pitch, recording his running style, technique and body language to ensure it's the most life like CR7 possible on the new game.
The CR7 takeover doesn't start and end with the front cover; this is Cristiano Ronaldo we're talking about, he was always gonna want to go next level and have that ego massaged a bit firmer. A special 'Ronaldo Edition' of the game will also be released alongside the standard version, and anyone who pre-orders the special edition will also be given access to Ronaldo on FIFA Ultimate Team as part of a five-game loan. Plus, pre-orderererers will receive their copy three days early.
In the trailer Ronaldo glides through the Chelsea team before being scathed down by a reckless David Luiz, picks himself up and smashes in the free-kick. Trademark celebration follows. For now, EA Sports haven't given much away about game play updates; all we know is that CR7 is the official FIFA 18 cover star. Expect a whole load more CR7 headlined trailers as the launch dates nears. A mock of the cover is featured below but you can assume that shot will be updated once the new Real Madrid home shirt is released in the coming weeks.
