Barcelona have taken a step closer to expanding their Camp Nou stadium after receiving the green light from the Barcelona City Council Governing Board to increase the capacity from 90,000 to 105,000.
The €600m expansion works, which is touted for a 2021 completion, will also include a stunning new roof as well as focusing on making the stadium a focal point of the local community by improving the surrounding La Maternitat and Sant Ramon districts while improving transport connections. Previously private spaces around the stadium will be opened up as green spaces for fans to use.
The next step for the club is to get the final go-ahead from the Municipal Council – that'll be decided this month. Along with the announcement Barcelona have unveiled impressive new imagery of the stadium and the surrounding area. A phenomenal project that instantly makes the current stadium look dated.
