Nike and the Premier League have announced a new six-year extension to their existing partnership, until at least 2025. The extension of the deal, which began back in 2000, cements one of Nike’s longest partnerships in football.
The announcement of the new deal was made at Nike World Headquarters in Portland, Oregon, by Martin Buckley VP & GM of Nike Global Football, former Everton and Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard, Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League, and Mark Parker, Chairman, President & CEO of Nike Inc. That's about as official as it gets.
The Swoosh emptied their ball sack for the announcement to reveal a number of classic and iconic designs to fill the room with Premier League nostalgia. Starting with the Nike Geo Merlin in 2000/01 through to the Premier League Merlin for 2018/19, Nike have made it incredibly difficult to pick out a favourite, but we'll go for the Aerow series. That circle design from 2004-2008 was the bomb.
Richard Scudamore, Executive Chairman of the Premier League, explained: “Nike is an excellent partner for the Premier League and, through its track-record of innovation, has done a great job providing high quality match-balls for the competition for nearly 20 years. We are very pleased our partnership has extended until the end of season 2024/25. Our work together extends beyond the match-ball and includes Nike’s excellent support for the Premier League Kit Scheme that benefits schools across England and Wales.”
The Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme which he speaks of has been running since 2011, and encourages young people to get active by providing schools and clubs with full playing kits. The Swoosh ain't going anywhere. There Mitre Ultimax will be an antique by the 2024/25 season.
