The season of change continues for AS Monaco as the French side return to familiar ground with the announcement that Italian brand Kappa will be the club’s new kit supplier from next season.
Following the departures of messrs Henry and Vasilyev from the positions of Manager and Vice President respectively, AS Monaco have now announced another departure in the form of kit supplier, Nike. In its place, returning just like manager Leonardo Jardim after a previous stint with the club, is former kit supplier, Kappa.
Kappa has been the AS Monaco kit supplier before, most notably between 1998 and 2001, which was a successful period for the club that saw the likes of David Trezeguet, Fabian Barthez, John Arne-Riise and Thierry Henry wearing the red and white kit.
The move has been in the pipeline for a few months now, and although no details of the deal have been released, it appears that Kappa have officially beaten competition from the likes of Under Armour to secure the partnership. With Jardim steering the club away from the relegation zone, fans will be hoping to see their club performing at a much higher standard in Ligue 1 next season, decked out in their new Kappa kit, of course.
Nike put out some decent kits over its tenure, which started back in the 2014/15 season, but there’s something about the idea of seeing that Kappa logo in the familiar red and white running down the sleeves that just feels... right. Throwback appeal at its finest.
