For their birthday, most people open some presents and cards, eat some cake and spend time with family and friends. Whilst Paul Pogba – who turns 26 today – may be doing some of those things, he’s also taking the opportunity to throw his support behind the campaign for clean water for all, run by the Charity Water organisation.
Approximately 663 million people in countries all across the world suffer from a lack of clean water and live without it. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or twice the population of the United States. It’s a shocking statistic and one that Paul Pogba feels strongly about.
Set up through his facebook page, World Cup winner Pogba’s fundraiser has a target of £26,000 set, it being the Frenchman’s 26th birthday ’n all. On top of that, Pogba has said that he will double the total raised.
Diseases from dirty water kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. 43% of those deaths are children under five years old. Access to clean water and basic sanitation can save around 16,000 lives every week. Charity Water have funded over 29,000 water projects in 26 developing countries since their formation in 2006. It's a truly worthy cause.
If you feel that their work is something that you would like to support, then make a donation to Pogba’s fundraising page on Facebook. With Pogba's pledge to double the amount raised, every little bit will help.
Good work, Paul, and happy birthday.
