Liverpool’s young right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to sign a deal with Under Armour that will reportedly see him become Liverpool’s highest earner from a boot sponsorship deal. And the scouser has already decided what he’s planning on doing with the money too, with an eye on giving back to his local community.
Reports suggest that Liverpool-born Alexander-Arnold is set to put pen to paper on a four year deal that will see him earn £1.6 million a year, although this is unconfirmed and other sources suggest this is a little wide of the mark. If true, the move will not only see him with the best boot sponsorship in Liverpool’s squad, but also the second most lucrative in the England squad, behind only captain Harry Kane.
The actual value of the deal aside, this is not money that’s going to be spent on flash cars and new homes. West Derby-born Trent plans to use the proceeds to help with the regeneration of his local community by purchasing land and building facilities such as football pitches for people across Liverpool. And the Reds full-back hopes the efforts will one day help produce more local players capable of breaking into the Liverpool first team.“I'm just fortunate to play for my boyhood club and for people to be able to see that dreams can come true,” he said. "Hopefully the younger people in the city see it too. I saw Gerrard and Carragher do it when I was young. I always wanted to be them. The aim is for more young scousers to come through the Academy and do the same."
At just 20 years of age, Alexander-Arnold’s rise has been rapid. Already a key member of Liverpool’s title chasing side, he is also battling for the right-back position in the England squad, a position that has a lot of competition. He was a member of the World Cup squad at last summer’s World Cup and is an established squad member.
