Are Juventus set to become the latest club to venture into the world streetwear? Rumours coming out of Italy this week suggest that the Serie A champions could be set to announce a new collaboration with skate brand, Palace.
Palace have already launched several successful collections with adidas with a football inspiration, including two iconic shirt designs worn by Inter Milan and Juventus in the 1980s, and now the Three Stripes are speculated to take that partnership further by getting Juventus involved as they look to increase their presence in the emerging football-streetwear market.
A potential link-up would push football further into that streetwear space, and build on the success of the Jordan and BAPE relationships with PSG that installed the Parisians as the leading lifestyle club when it comes to streetwear and fashion. Nike have also toyed around with Inter Milan as they continue to create that niche of "Hype Clubs" amongst their ranks.
Could Juventus be the first adidas club to make their own mark? The rumours are vague at present and the details of any potential partnership are still in the very early stages, if at all. But this would be a lifestyle collection rather than the on-pitch performance element pulled off by PSG and Jordan – because Nike own Jordan whereas adidas do not own Palace.
When Palace have experimented with football in the past the vibe was all about the vintage jerseys, acrylic fabrics, and wide collars with a real old-school flavour so we can begin to picture what a Juve collab might consist of. If adidas were to venture further into streetwear scenes then Juventus would be the ideal club to take on-board, with their modernised branding, champions status and global appeal. Nothing is imminent right now, but if wheels are in motion we'd bet on a late 2019 roll-out.
