With the aim of getting more young people moving and playing sports in the city, Nike has announced a range of long-term partnerships, including a multi-year engagement with the London Youth Games.
To celebrate the partnership, Nike invited some of the city’s biggest names down to Crystal Palace to meet young Londoners and the people who are helping to get them active. The photoshoot, which starred Londoners including Jadon Sancho, Alex Scott, Julie Adenuga, Michael Dapaah, Jordon Ibe, Perri Shakes- Drayton, Tammy Abraham and Ryan Sessegnon, brought together the biggest cultural and sporting names in the capital to show the scale of Nike’s commitment.
The London Youth Games reaches 140,000 young people across 33 boroughs in 30 sports and it has been London’s largest provider of youth sporting opportunities for more than 40 years. Throughout its history, the London Youth Games has provided a pathway for some of the greatest athletes to come from the city, including Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Alex Scott, Dina Asher Smith and Mo Farah, who all had the opportunity to represent their boroughs when growing up.
As well as the London Youth Games, Nike has also partnered with Virgin Sport in a long-term partnership aimed at providing opportunities in sport to the borough of Hackney. Further commitments have been created with youth football charity, Football Beyond Borders, Gloves not Gunz, a Croydon community project mentoring young people and Love Basketball, London’s biggest girls only basketball club, as new Nike partners. Together, these new partnerships extend the influence of 'Made to Play', Nike’s global commitment to get young people to live happier, healthier and more successful lives.
