Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal this week, beating eternal rival Lionel Messi to the feat, and now he’s got another lead over the Argentinian, with the news that he earns over double the amount from sponsored Instagram posts.
While Lionel Messi is not averse to a bit of advertising revenue here and there, but he’s a quiet character off the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, is another beast entirely. The news that CR7 tops the list of athletes charging the most for Instagram posts broke earlier this year, and so it should come as no surprise that as a follow up, the man who would seemingly do anything if you paid him enough would come out on top when it comes to earnings from Instagram posts. What may well surprise you though is just how much he earns, with the Juve man raking in £38.2 million last year alone. £38.2 million. So that means he makes more from Instagram than he does playing for Juventus...
Messi earnt a paltry £18.7m by comparison, and the Portugal captain even trumped social media icons Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez. Ronaldo made 34 sponsored Instagram posts in total over the last 12 months, earning £780,000 for each one – landing him the huge £38.2m sum. Interestingly though, despite popular belief, Messi actually sent out more sponsored posts with 36, but he only earns on average £518,000 for each post. Missing a trick there, Leo. But remember, there has to be a limit, a line that you just don't cross. You have to maintain your dignity... right? Absolutely not. Cash in, son.
