Jose Mourinho will remain an adidas ambassador, that despite the fact he has joined Nike-sponsored Tottenham Hotspur as manager. It means that the Portuguese will continue to wear adidas products on both match-day and in training.
Whether it has been an influence over his decisions, or whether it has just been one of those strange coincidences, since leaving Inter Milan in 2010, Jose Mourinho has taken the helm at only adidas-sponsored teams, allowing him to comfortably continue his role as brand ambassador for the Three Stripes. But all that changed when he replaced Mauricio Pochettino as manager at Tottenham Hotspur recently, who have an affiliation with American giants, Nike.
Managers tend to sign extensions to the deals that exist with their clubs, as has been seen over the last couple of seasons with the deal between New Balance and Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola and PUMA. But due to his status in the game, Nike’s current 15-year kit deal with Spurs will not affect Mourinho’s deal with adidas. The 56-year old has already been seen on the training ground in a pair of adidas Predator 19.1 TR and the ‘Encryption Pack’ COPA 20.1 alongside his Nike Tottenham training kit, and that is obviously now a sight that’s set to continue.
The move to retain Mourinho’s position is testament to the high regard in which adidas hold him, apparently viewing him as just as indispensable as the likes of Zinedine Zidane on their roster. The Spurs manager has maintained his position as brand ambassador for 15 years now, despite several high-profile sackings, and it appears that it is a mutually beneficial relationship, with the deal being particularly lucrative for Mourinho, bolstering his position as one of the highest earning managers of all time.
