For the first time in their 100-year history, it looks like there’s a strong possibility that Leeds United will be wearing Three Stripes, after reports emerged suggesting that the Yorkshire club are on the verge of signing a potentially lucrative deal with adidas. It would see the German brand producing Leeds United kits for the 2020/21 season, replacing current kit suppliers Kappa.
Leeds United are one of the most sought after clubs amongst brands and kit manufacturers, due mostly to the pulling power of the fans, with their shirt sales amongst the best in the country. Kappa have been producing the Whites’ kits since 2015, with the Italian brand excelling with this season’s special edition centenary shirt, but with that deal set to expire at the end of the season it looks like adidas are ready to pounce. Reports are suggesting that the deal could be a lucrative one for the Yorkshire side – particularly if they make their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
Whilst the report has yet to be officially confirmed by either brand or club, there’s no smoke without fire as the old adage goes, and this could potentially be a huge source of revenue for Leeds – something that would be very welcome should they make it back to the top-tier of English football.
The last time Leeds played in the Premier League back in 2004 their kit was supplied by Nike, whilst they have also worn Umbro, Admiral, Asics, Puma, Diadora and Macron. But, if true, this would represent the first time in the club’s 100-year history that they have used adidas. And the potential deal has got fans’ imaginations running wild, with some stunning concepts already doing the rounds.
