Inter Miami & Nashville SC Reimagine Themselves For MLS Debut In 1996

Major League Soccer is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, and in memory of the first ever MLS game played, way back on 6 April 1995, inaugral MLS sides Inter Miami and Nashville have been having fun imagining what things would’ve been like if they’d been there from the start.

In 2020, Inter Miami and Nashville SC both embarked on their inaugural MLS campaigns. But 25 years ago, the league looked like a very different place as it opened up for its own debut. Now, with a nice throwback feel, both clubs have taken a tongue-in-cheek reimagining of what life would’ve been like if they had existed back then.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami turned to a vintage edition of EA Sports' FIFA franchise to simulate a match between themselves and LA Galaxy. The retro-vision saw the Herons dressed out in bright pink tops and black shorts – a look that many concept designers thought would be how the team would actually turn out.

In response to the #MLSin96 initiative, Nashville imagined what their club strip might've looked like in 1996, offering up a baggier design modelled by Dax McCarthy. Appears the joke was on Nashville though, with many fans asking how they could design a fake retro kit that was better than their current kit. Awkward…
