Real Madrid have released a short video giving fans a rendered look at what the new Santiago Bernabéu will look like following the planned £500million makeover. The project was set into motion in 2018 and will cost the club an estimated €400 million (approximately $436 million).
The club originally unveiled their ambitious new proposal for the famous stadium more than five years ago, with plans to new build a metallic shell, and a hotel on site. They were granted permission in March to begin the major construction operation at the 73-year-old venue, and this new look at the planned outcome shows off the impressive retractable roof design along with a 360-degree video screen that stretches around the entire ground. It also shows the spacious leisure and entertainment facilities that will be introduced as part of the makeover.
The main aim of the renovations is to improve the facilities, with the 81,000 capacity not being expanded. Instead, the plan is to introduce several shops, restaurants, and a hotel to the complex, and rumour has it that some rooms of the planned hotel will have views of the pitch. Expect a hefty price tag attached to a night’s stay in those.
In a strange twist, the new stadium renovations were due to be completed in 2023, but the indefinite suspension of La Liga due to Covid-19, means that construction is actually ahead of schedule, with a renewed completion dat of October 2022. However, with the pitch not needed to stage any Real games, the club have opened up the ground to help local hospitals.
