Neymar’s New PUMA Deal Is A Record Breaker

Wondering why Neymar traded the Swoosh for the Big Cat? Well wonder no more after reports have emerged which suggest that his new PUMA contract is worth £23million-per-year, making it the largest individual sports sponsorship contract in history. The deal eclipses Cristiano Ronaldo's £15million-per-year Nike deal and Lionel Messi's £18million-per-year adidas partnership.

After a 15-year association, Neymar sensationally parted ways with Nike recently, and while the reason for PUMA wanting his signature is clear for all to see, the reason for Neymar jumping the Nike ship has suddenly become a whole lot clearer, and it will come as a surprise to no one. Information coming from Forbes magazine suggests that he's in line to scoop £23 million per year from his new PUMA contract – more than double the £11m he was paid by Nike as part of the contract he signed in 2011. All starts to makes sense, eh?

While the length of the contract with PUMA has not been officially announced, the Brazilian’s former deal with Nike was for 11 years, and he still had two years left to run on it when he severed ties to make this switch.

Despite predictions that Neymar would become one of the leading faces for the new PUMA Ultra boot, he surprisingly started life with the German brand by wearing a special edition King, tying in with the slogan that accompanied his signing with the brand of ‘The King is Back’. Things didn’t get off to the best start however, after he was sent off in his first match as a PUMA ambassador in PSG’s 1-0 loss to Marseille. Sure Neymar is crying himself to sleep on his bed of money.
