Luxury Swiss Watchmaker Purnell has officially partnered with Ballon d’Or in a three year deal, meaning that Leo Messi, Alexia Putellas, and any future winners of the award in the next couple of years will also scoop a rather fancy watch as well.
As if being named the best player in the world wasn’t enough (for the seventh time if you’re Lionel Messi), in a first for the ceremony, winners of the Ballon d’Or will now also receive an exclusive watch designed by premium Watchmaking Maison, Purnell, who have become the official partner of France Football’s prestigious award. The partnership will last for three years and it marks a prestigious association between the most select brand which exclusively manufactures Tourbillon watches, and the most sought-after individual award in the world of football.
Now we know what you’re going to ask: what’s a Tourbillon watch? Well, a tourbillon is an addition to the mechanics found in the movements of certain high-end watches, originally included to increase accuracy. So now you know. Famous for its expertise in Tourbillon manufacturing, Purnell’s Escape Ballon d’Or Unique Piece houses a “Football” Tourbillon that boasts 4.14g of 18K rose gold and rotation in 30 seconds.
As you’d expect, the watch is packed with fine details, including a hemispherical football cabochon crown (the little bit you turn on the side) and a “France Football” hallmark, developed by the Maison’s master-watchmaker Eric Coudray. It’s finished with a rose gold frame which comes hand-polished and engraved with the winner’s name.
All round a handy little piece to ensure you're not late for training in the future – nice.
Should Lewandowski have got one of these? Nah, we're not even gonna start that debate...
