Footballers’ fascination with fashion shows no signs of letting up, as evidenced by the all-star turn out at RHUDE’s SS23 show at Paris Fashion Week, which saw players old and new rubbing shoulders with stars from the NBA as well as musicians in what was a colossal crossing of cultures.
The football x fashion crossover has never been stronger, and to see players taking in fashion shows in their off-time is not at all unusual, with the likes of Neymar and Hector Bellerin being regular faces to be spotted alongside the catwalk. And yet that interest in fashion continues to expand at a rapid rate, with RHUDE’s SS23 Paris Fashion Week show welcoming a host of players past and present, including Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Moise Kean, Eduardo Camavinga, Georginio Rutter, Ryan Babel and Jesse Lingard.
Founded by Rhuigi Villaseñor in 2015, RHUDE is a design venture born out of Los Angeles, balancing luxury techniques with streetwear elements, showcased as ready-to-wear collections, and it has found huge favour amongst football’s elite. Among the players in attendance, both Camavinga and Kean were quick to stick on their latest RHUDE fits for the show, while they likely scouted out their next acquisitions.
RHUDE’s SS23 collection, titled ‘New Money’, kicked off Paris Fashion Week with a signature dose of Los Angeles casual. A combination of oversized and relaxed silhouettes that continue the fashion label’s trend of mixing upscale tailoring and streetwear elements made up the majority of the pieces on display.
Players enjoying their downtime by taking in these types of events is looking more and more natural, with their characteristics to feel as comfortable and confident in fashion environments as they do on the pitch allowing them to transition seamlessly. With a summer free from action for the men’s side of the game, expect to see more of this.
