If reports are to be believed, Jack Grealish could be set for a big money brand switch that would see him as the highest paid British player for such a deal, moving ahead of the previous record holders, Gareth Bale and Harry Kane.
Jack Grealish has been a Nike player since his academy days, and he was also one of the key players to be used at the World Cup for the disruptive launch of the new Nike Phantom GX. So it was a real surprise to hear that the Man City midfielder may actually be on the verge of leaving the brand, as we mentioned recently, with some key indicators suggesting he’s soon to be on the move, coupled with some fairly reliable reports linking him with a big money switch.
The first sign that all was not well came when Grealish was spotted testing out what looked like the new PUMA Future Ultimate from the ‘Supercharge Pack’ in training. That was followed up by the attacker playing against Spurs in a pair of blackout Nike Phantom GX – a dead giveaway that a player is – or is soon to be – out of contract. His time with the Swoosh was further thrown into speculation after he removed all mention of Nike from his social media profile.
Reports from the Telegraph suggest that PUMA – who also sponsor Grealish's team, Man City – are interested in having Grealish as one of the faces of their brand, suggesting that they are set to offer the England international a "blockbuster record-breaking boot deal for a British player" that would eclipse the previous £4million-a-season that Harry Kane and Gareth Bale apparently raked in. Despite this, all hope is not lost for Nike, who still claim to be in negotiations with Grealish. Could be that Grealish is simply playing hard to get to up the contract offer from Nike, but if there’s any truth in the amounts that are being reportedly offered by PUMA, then it’s unlikely that Nike will match or better it.
Grealish is already the most expensive British player in Premier league history, and he also enjoys lucrative deals with the likes of Gucci, so a big money move to PUMA will certainly bolster his already decent income.
PUMA currently have Neymar in place as their main man, with a supporting cast that includes the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay, but the roster is certainly looking on the older side these days and could do with a refresh, and 27-year old Grealish would certainly be a face for the brand for several years to come should they snag his signature.
