The National Women’s Soccer League has unveiled its newly-designed NWSL Championship and MVP trophies, designed by the luxury brand Tiffany & Co. and inspired by the aerodynamic forces of football.

Undergoing its first redesign since the league began play in 2013, the reimagined NWSL Championship trophy is made of 24-karat gold vermeil and sterling silver and is inspired by aerodynamic forces with a sleek base with a stylised air current-shaped motif designed to evoke a ball in motion. In addition to the Championship trophy, Tiffany & Co. also collaborated with the NWSL on the redesign of its regular season MVP trophy, awarded to the league’s top performer in 2023. Both trophies will be officially presented on 11 November at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.

Headed up by NWSL creative director Maureen Raisch, the redesign comes at an important time for the brand, with viewership and attendance numbers higher than ever in the U.S.

Tiffany & Co. has 160 years of history in designing and handcrafting some of the world’s most revered sports trophies, including the Vince Lombardi Trophy, presented annually at the NFL Super Bowl, as well as the trophies of the U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s Singles tournaments, and beginning next season, will work with the NWSL to re-envision and create the remaining end-of-year awards.

“This new trophy is the physical manifestation of our commitment to raising the game and creating a league everybody, and most importantly our players, can be proud of. We’re really excited for everyone to get a first look at the Championship in November,” NWSL chief marketing and commercial officer Julie Haddon said. “I’m proud that we could deliver upon something this powerful and poignant and for the players and clubs to be recognised by with such an elegant statement-piece trophy from Tiffany & Co.”

The NWSL 2023 play-off quarter finals get underway this weekend, with OL Reign facing Angel City and North Carolina Courage taking on Gotham FC.
